Who would have thought that soccer would be the sport that would unite people across the globe? The Fifa 2010 World Cup hosted in our home country is what made one month the most memorable in South African (SA) history.
During 11 June and 11 July 2010 fans from around the world created a sense of belonging. During this period nothing about politics or what country you came from mattered, all what was on everyone’s mind was the soccer.
Experiencing the game at the stadium was phenomenal. I have never experienced anything so WOW! Fans dressed up to show their support for the team they cheering, vuvuzelas being blown from corner to corner, being part of fans had a feeling that you wanted to say “ I am proudly South African”
Not only the stadium but to watch the games at the fanfest, CTICC, V & A Waterfront, Canal Walk and many other places all shared the same or similar experience. It showed the world that although we have our politics and downfalls; SA has the love and potential to host major events.
So while the World Cup 2010 may have come and gone, let us not let go of the sense of belonging that we shared amongst ourselves and the world. Let this only be the beginning.

It truly was a spectacular event and I enjoyed every moment of it especially having the opportunity to go to the stadium.
