On Saturday 2 October 2010, we (youth of Morba) hosted an Orphans Fun Day. This day was held with the intention of giving a few orphans a time to remember. Our day started at 9h00 with a yummy breakfast, followed by fun activities such as; face painting, arts, jumping castle and pony rides. We then had lunch and concluded with a thanks and giving them goodie bags.
This day truly opened my heart and eyes. Some of these orphans lost their parents either in an accident or they were abandoned. These children do not know what it feels like to have individual attention from a parent. They do not know what it feels like to go on a family outing or go on a family holiday. They do not go to family lunches or family parties. Their family is the orphanage. They have their caregivers who are their “parent” and the other orphans are their “brothers and sisters”.
Children are a gift from God. Every child has the right to be a child, to feel happy and have fun. We are only a child once and we should grasp every moment. These children deserve to feel individual love and attention even if it be for a day.
Gratitude goes to the caregivers. They give these children the love of a parent. Without them these children would not have a family or a home.
