What people would do for a Fifa 2010 ticket

It was announced that Fifa tickets would go on sale on Monday, 19 April 2010 at 9am at 18 selected Shoprite Checkers stores across the country. Out of this 18, two were allocated to the Western Cape.

Sunday night I receive a call (from Lynn) saying that if I want tickets I should go through NOW because there is “fat” queue! Monday morning at 12.30am my sister and I decided to go to Checkers in Plumstead. When we arrived we were number 92. Yes, at 12.30am we were number 92!

We waited till 9am and during the night the queue grew and grew till there were approximately 300 people waiting in the rain and cold just for Fifa 2010 Cape Town (CT) tickets.

9am comes and Checkers informs us that there are currently NO CT tickets! Waiting whole night just to hear this was not pleasant. People became grumpy, angry and frustrated. It was announced that tickets would be on sale and yet there is still nothing!

Slowly but surely some people left, some bought tickets in other provinces, but no one could buy tickets for the CT matches. Yet, some still remained (including myself) to find out what exactly is happening as this is no longer acceptable.

We were told by a Fifa representative that there are CT tickets but they are not available just yet. We should keep our ears and eyes peeled.

Through sunshine or rain, hunger or thirst, no sleep or sleep, those who are desperate for CT tickets will try their utmost to get it. Do not give up just yet. If the dream is big enough, the facts don’t count!
